The community of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania and law enforcement agencies across the state are mourning the tragic death of Corporal Timothy J. O’Connor Jr., a Pennsylvania State Police officer who passed away after being shot during a traffic stop on March 8 in West Caln Township near Honey Brook. Authorities confirmed that O’Connor, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police assigned to Troop J at the Embreeville Barracks, was fatally wounded while performing his duties. The devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the community and the wider law enforcement family.
According to officials, the incident began shortly after 8:15 p.m. when emergency dispatch received reports of an erratic driver in the Honey Brook area. Corporal O’Connor located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near Route 10 and Michael Road in West Caln Township. Authorities say that as the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect, identified as Jesse Nathan Elks, allegedly opened fire from inside the car. Additional units responded after dispatch lost radio contact with the trooper.
Corporal O’Connor was transported to Paoli Hospital for emergency treatment but later passed away from his injuries. Authorities reported that the suspect exited the vehicle shortly after the shooting and died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The tragic sequence of events is now under joint investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office along with the Chester County Detectives Division.
